Starting the Hunt is a guide to mostly online and mostly free US geospatial and attribute data.  Data sources are organized in two broad classifications, State/Local and National aggregations.  Originally deveoped at the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies by Stephan Pollard, Starting the Hunt is now hosted by the University of Arkansas Libraries in their GIS & Maps section at this link: http://libinfo.uark.edu/GIS/us.asp
